LOCATION
Bear Day 2017 takes place in the Siiranjärvi campsite, near the Lapland border, relatively close to Kuusamo City.
The area has an old logging cabin from 1950´s, a more modern accommodation building, wood heated sauna by the lake, a lavvu or kota in the yard, and outhouses. Water comes from a well, and electricity is generated in a nearby aggregate shed. One can drive directly to the yard, but unfortunately the camp site and its buildings don´t feature completely unobstructed access.
Rowing boats by the lake are in free use by the guests.
PROGRAM
Bear Day festivities celebrate and renew our totemic connection with the bear, primal ancestor of our tribe. During the ceremonies we honour the bear´s position as a mighty and wise spirit of the forest, and as our ally from heaven.
Bear Day´s midsummer festivities are filled with general fun, talks, discussions and workshops, bathing in sauna and swimming in the lake, a ceremonial feast of course, and rituals that honour the bear and remind us of his origins. We give offerings to the bear, and sing an ancient runic poem about his birth. Those so inclined can also bear witness to a complex of ´noita´ (or šamanistic) bear rituals, and attend its certain parts.
Registering to the Bear Day happens only via email:

As you register, please let us know your full name, address, phone number, email address, and possible food allergies or other food related restrictions. You can also let us know of possible mobility issues and illnesses that could affect your stay during the festivities. This way the organizers can be aware of various health related stuff, that might need to be taken into account somehow.
Payment for attendance is 20 euros, and payment for food is 10 euros. Due date is 11th of June. Attendace fee covers a bunk and full program, while food payment covers Friday´s evening snack, Saturday´s breakfast, lunch and main feast, plus Sunday´s breakfast. If you´d like to skip meals or the entire menu, please let us know. Preschool kids and smaller toddlers and babies party and eat for free.
Registration is binding, and we won´t return your attendance or food payments unless someone else can fill your spot. (This is often the case thankfully.) Only due payments will secure your spot, and only payments arriving to us by the due date will be acknowledged. If you have any trouble regarding the payments or their due date, please let us know so we can arrange something and resolve the issue.
Pets are not allowed to the festivities, sorry!
